Often one of the last things people consider when planning a house, security screens can actually make all the difference to your comfort AND peace of mind in your new home.
Allowing an easy and secure way for you to open your home up to allow air to circulate and breezes to flow through, security screens can help keep your home cool – without having to flick the aircon on.
There are now a multitude of providers of security screens available on the market, so knowing which provider to choose can be a tough ask. We provide Invisi-Gard screens on all our homes, for a number of reasons.
Invisi-Gard® is made from 316 marine grade stainless steel mesh and backed by a 15 year warranty. Using the unique, patented pressure retention and isolation method, you can rest assured that the stainless steel mesh will defy the most determined attack from both intruders and corrosion.
Here’s some of the most common questions we get asked about Invisi-Gard:
Why do I need security screens?
Security screens serve several key functions in a modern Top End home. They are an evolution of the flimsier fly screens many Australians have had over their windows and doors for decades, designed to keep bugs out while letting air circulate through our homes.
The newer generation of products provide those functions, too – but also serve as a way to secure our homes from intruders – opening up a whole new range of possibilities in how we use them.
They also help to maintain views far more effectively than the older-style diamond grille security screens so many of us had on our homes in the 1980s and 1990s.
Is there an extra cost to get Invisi-Gard installed on my Territory Homes build?
At Territory Homes, we believe in providing our customers with homes they are going to love for decades, so we include high-end products like Invisi-Gard as standard options. There’s no extra cost at all. We know they’ll enhance your enjoyment of your new home, AND you’ll feel secure, too.
Why do you choose Invisi-Gard?
Territory Homes have made the decision to use Invisi-Gard screens because we know they’re proven to be the best solution for the extreme climate conditions our homes endure. Invisi-Gard is made from 316 marine grade stainless steel mesh and backed by a 15-year warranty. That industry-leading mesh is retained in an aluminium frame, providing a strong product that will stand the test of time while also looking fantastic.
We believe they’re the best on the market currently – and the feedback we’ve had from our happy home owners backs that opinion up.
How secure are the screens?
Invisi-Gard is designed first and foremost to protect your family and home from would-be intruders and the screens perform this task better than any other product currently available. In fact, their products have 10 times the strength of the current Australian standards.
As mentioned above, Invisi-Gard is made from 316 marine grade stainless steel. 316 grade stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance over 304 grades stainless steel as it contains an additional substance, molybdenum, giving higher protection from corrosion, notably in marine environments.
In fact, 316 is regarded as the standard marine grade material for this very reason. In the case of window and door security screens, required to be exposed to the elements over long periods of time, it makes sense that corrosion resistance is a fundamental consideration.
A final key factor which distinguishes Invisi-Gard® products from the market, is that only the highest quality mesh is sourced which is consistently quality controlled and accredited under international standards.
Will my screens deteriorate over time? How durable are they?
The stainless steel featured in Invisi-Gard screens has a higher resistance to corrosion than mild steel counterparts. Grade 316 should be selected as a minimum as it’ll give the best degree of corrosion resistance, and that’s what Invisi-Gard provide as standard. This class-leading mesh is cased in an aluminium frame using a patented retention system. This unique design ensures maximum strength and durability through an assembly technique that avoids contact between the two dissimilar metals – helping prevent corrosion.
The construction of security screens requires stainless steel mesh to be attached to an aluminum frame, bringing two different metals together which can lead to corrosion. To prevent this type of dissimilar metal corrosion, Invisi-Gard® have developed and patented a unique clamping system, called Extreme Grip Protection (EGP).
This system cleverly captures the mesh within the frame using specially shaped co-extrusions of PVC. A PVC wedge is then used to apply uniform pressure around the frame which locks in the mesh. The EGP system, used only by Invisi-Gard®, means the mesh is able to be locked into the frame without the uses of screws or mechanical fixing, and means the potentially harmful contact between the metals is avoided.
